why linux doesn’t need defragging (and osx) and another reason to dump Windows

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

I hate windows even more each day and this is just another reason why I dumped it after having to use it for 10 years of my life. Not that OSx or Linus are brilliant, it is just that I don’t want to spend three hours of my life every week cleaning spam, virii and defragging my computer just to get it back to a normal working situation.

Exploding Sonys

Nintendo DS gets a browser

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

Alan has just bought a Gp2x which is undeniably a nice piece of kit and pound for pound beats the PSP hands down (basically becuase paying £30 for a game is not the kind of thing we do - especiialy since the majority of them are Playstation ports and a total wasted opportunity).  But the Nintendo DS has always been a nice cheap alternative and with the new Opera browser that is available and a great selection of handheld titles available if I was going to spend more than ten minutes in front of a screen smaller than my Macbook I would buy one.  but I don’t and my Macbook goes everywhere with me.

The GP2x is still the smarter option though just because Pilotwings on the SNES rules!

It has been known for a long time that Microsoft has given away powertoys but here is a more comprehensive list.

Agent seem more than useless though, actually really annoying in fact, but the alt tab replacement is nice, as is myfonttool, tweakui is essential, the vurtual desktop tool came a long time  before the Apple annoucement this week, the cleartype tuner is useful (once or twice), and the ability to mount isos virtually is another boon.
