Microsoft Cancels more features of Longhorn

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

Microsoft has dropped one of the major features of it upcoming Vista operating system. WinFS was supposed to be a file system a giant leap forward in Windows file management with a basis formed on Microsofts SQL Server platform this would have meant that finally Windows users can have a search function that is of any use at all and documents not simply stored in set places.

Although they have stated that the search and organisation functions have been incorporated into Vista already without a new file system to back these up the future for this project is starting to sound at the least flakey and at worst finally an upgrade that is simply not worth bothering with.

Macbook not a laptop

Saturday, June 17th, 2006

Looks liuke Apple could be in a bit of trouble with the new macbooks, they do indeed get very hot! So Apple has told us in the manual that the Macbook is indeed a notebook and not a laptop.  But their advertising suggests otherwise.  Proof here

Ok, enough of the news items

Thursday, June 15th, 2006

So Ive started this blog off with a few news items, fair enough its business like to do so.

Now onto what i feel personally about some stuff with the hope to make this blog interesting in the slightest.

I’ve just got a Macbook Pro and to tell you the truth before I put at least a gig of memory in it the machine seemed pretty inadicate, since none of the Adobe (Macromedia) apps are univerally compiled they worked slowly at best and crashed terribly at worse. That is with just 512mb of ram installed, now that I have a gig in there the rosetta apps actually work to a great standard. I’m not saying that it is not difficult to recognise that there is some emulation going on but they work well. In fact I’ve never seen emulation of another processor work so well.

Well done Apple!

So enough about my new toy and onto something real.

is Britain in a recession? Some things are doing amazing well, my radio control model kit company has never known it so well, but a lot of retail is struggling, Old Village cannot seem to sell any clothes (understandable due to the quality of the clothes, people really need to see the material, and feel the quality of these pieces to make a decision) but the Altanus watches are selling well. So I have created Pacific Uk a dedicated UK distribution site for these great chrongraph watches.

Getting back to AABT, we are now in the position to be opening a retail shop (What you may ask, real world selling!!) and having sen the premises today i am really upbeat about the whole sitation and I really do beleive that this will give a much needed boost to the credibility of one of my projects and I am offically excited about the prospects.

Apart from starting the selling of a dental camera with Ivan that is my day today. Not much but enough to keep me happy, and hopefull for tommorow.

Oh I nearly forgot… the Gimpshop, the quickest app i have ever seen on this new MacBook - Seems real powerful but not nearly there with its Photoshop emulation yet, where are the vector shapes? text in Screen?, Proper Layer effects? Selection tools? PDF output? And yet again Vector shapes!!!

Office will not export PDF

Sunday, June 4th, 2006

What a bummer, Microsoft is dropping support for PDF in its new version of Office so that it doesn’t get slappd ith an anti-trust court case from Adobe. This limits the usefulness of PDF enormously. I hate Word Doc formatted files as the majority of people who use it have little idea of what they ar doing so reformating for the web or design is a bit of a nightmare really.
